An Eight-pointed star is an ancient and widespread symbol in Russia known to the early 20th century. The eight-pointed star of Bethlehem, under which Jesus Christ was born, is found on all Russian icons of the Virgin Mary, patron saint of Russia, and symbolizes Russia. The eight-pointed star in Russia is called “Russian star, the star of the Virgin, Star of Bethlehem.”

In dopravoslavnoy Russia, the ancient Russov eight-pointed star signifies the presence of the chief deity; she was portrayed on the military banner, on clothing, on all the important things of life and worship.

In Orthodox Russia an eight-pointed star was just as important. Eight– Star of Bethlehem – lit up the sky at the time of the birth of Christ, and, moving across the sky, led the Magi to the cradle of Christ for worship.
